How we got to this
We needed to fit the new windows first so in April 2011 the work began
The old timber windows were to be replaced with plastic sash windows which we had seen on another old property in the area and liked the look of them. We purchased the new windows from https://www.quickslide.co.uk/. We had looked at lots of alternatives for the windows but after seeing some Quickslide windows newly fitted on a house locally and speaking to the homeowners we decided they were the best fit for our house. Traditional but modern without changing the look of the house. Quickslide are a great company to deal with from ordering to delivery 5*.
Old windows coming out - while the windows were out some work was required on one of the brick pillars between the windows as it was bowed. Hence all the scaffolding. You can see the bowed pillar in the photo below
With the help of a friend Gary rigged up a hoist to pull the pillar back in - this was a scary moment they had their fingers crossed that it went to plan
Luckily it worked - nice straight pillar
then they added some steel work behind the new straight pillar
new windows were fitted upstairs and down
now it was time to start the master bedroom renovation
This is a photo of the room before
we decided it would be nice to open up the old fireplace and fit a log burner
Gary built a nice new brick fireplace ready for the log burner
more scaffolding was required to fit the flue and the new cowl on the chimney
then it was onto the plastering as the room starts to come together
this is the bit I like when you start putting the colour on the walls
coming together nicely
nice new bed
feels like a posh hotel room
The chaise is an antique we picked up and got re covered
Another job well done
