Lounge renovation

Next on the renovation list was the lounge completed Oct 2016

This was another big task as Gary wanted to take it right back to basics and install a new ceiling in the process.  The first job was to strip the walls.

Then we needed to remove the old fireplace to make way for a reclaimed slate fireplace, similar to the one we installed in the dining room

This was a messy job

All ready for the new fireplace to be fitted

Then is was the huge task of taking down the old ceiling and the lathe plaster was a very messy task

It created loads of bags of rubble

You just have to remember at this stage that all the mess will be worth it

We were now ready for the new fireplace to be fitted

Then the new ceiling had to go back up in time for the plasterer coming

Some of the walls needed plaster boarding too

There was new window to be fitted too, like the ones we fitted in the dining room

Getting there slowly.  All ready for the plasterer to come and work his magic.  We used Wayne Morgan https://www.facebook.com/Wmorganplastering/ highly recommended his work is first class and he is a very tidy worker

Now we were ready for the new ceiling rose to be fitted.  Identical to the one we had fitted in the dining room from Classic Plaster Moulds https://twitter.com/classicplasterm.  They also restored some of the old coving. We managed to keep all of the old coving in tack when we took the ceiling down as we like to keep as many original features as possible.

One of the hardest tasks of this room renovation was the stripping of all the paint work from the skirting boards and window architraves.  Gary just kept plodding on .

Once all the paint was stripped then we could start putting it all back together and get painting

Then wallpapering the chimney breast

This is the bit I like when the room starts coming back together.  Next was the carpet.

Then the sofas

and the curtains

The Sydney canvas looks great against the new paint

We brought the old bureau in from the hall way too

There is one last job to do and that is to make a new door for the lounge with some panels of glass in to lighten up the hall way.  Will add photos once this is complete.

All the work was worth while and my husband deserves a medal
